other names- Golden Creeping Sage, Camphor plant habitat- open montane chaparral and woodlands range- locally common in California foothills and Mountains to 6000 ft description- prostrate to mat forming, woody-based stem, densely woolly lower surface on opposite pale obovate to elliptic leaves, flowers in dense cluster on leafless stem, bi-lobed lower flower lip, stamens and style prominently exserted etymology- salvia, from the latin, salveo, meaning "I am well"; sonomensis, Sonoma county or valley applications- contains a camphorlike substance with mild stimulating effect when smoked
